Celebration of the Three wise Men (Magi) - historical scene
Once again this year the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence organizes a historical reconstruction of the visit of the Magi (the Tree Wise Men) to Jesus, to celebrate the day of Epiphany, Monday, January 6, 2014.
The historic Florentine event draws to an ancient tradition of the fifteenth century, where a company of artists organized a magnificent procession in Florence called "Festa de ' Magi" .
The Magi will leaqd the procession on horseback, dressed with sumptuous silk garments inspired by those of Benozzo Gozzoli's fresco.
The procession will start from Piazza Pitti on Monday January 6, 2014 at 14.00 and will wind through the streets of Florence city center to reach Piazza Duomo (Cathedral) by 15.30 . b >
In Piazza Duomo the disguised crowd will salute the figures and the "colubrina" will be burnt. The Three Kings will then lay their gifts at the foot of the Living Nativity .
For the third year in a row , representatives of several ethnic communities in Florence will take part in the procession (Albania , Cameroon, Eritrea , the Philippines, Nigeria , Peru, the Democratic Republic of Congo , Sri Lanka ) wearing their traditional clothes .
